Foxy Lady in Trouble! DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDE

By 27 Novembre 2023Partners

I have 3-3g (one slight variegation) I do need to get better on checking my palm talk tho! Purchased several years ago as a seedling from foxy gold casino a breeder in Florida. Was it grown from a seed made by nature or by manual cross pollination? Where did that palm originate? I hope/expect some new batches to hit the market sometime soon.

The only mature ( and flowering /seeding ) specimens i’m currently familiar with are those in Kopsick’s collection. Floribunda had some f2 foxy ladies a while ago. The one I’m growing in Leucadia is from the same source and purchased about the same time, as this and another “Foxy Lady” I have. You did not get a palm that was basically bare root and a palm you specifically said you did not want!!! You got an amazing holy grail palm at a discount price. From the pic seems like your palm flew across the country unharmed.

Can you tell me if this baby foxy is a full green ? The green form tends to perform better in full all day sun than the variegated which burns more easily especially in hot dry sun. FULL DISCLOSURE…these are not photos of my palms, nor did I take these photos.
I never said the palm looked bad I said it was basically bare root and variegated which I specifically said I didn’t want!!! He is the only one to have a problem with their foxy lady order, and started to complain even before it was delivered. 1 of each 3 and 7 is slightly variegated with 2 of each being greens. Good quality plant and amazing growth. Here is the palm, looks very healthy aside from the obvious cold spots on the old fronds. F2 would be a foxy lady x foxy lady (Exc)x(WxV) rather than back crossed with either parent.

  • I’m hoping that the foxy lady will turn all green it only has 1 frond that is variegated.
  • Can you tell me if this baby foxy is a full green ?
  • If you know anyone looking who would make a good palm parent send em my way.
  • If anyone can find a pic of a small full green please post to show the difference thank you
  • The vast majority of the good looking seed are NOT viable.
  • Foxy Lady palms are incredibly fast growing palms and I think yours has a fighting chance if you get it in the ground ASAP and keep it’s rootball watered.

One is variegated and the other is not?? Are they famous because they are the first to produce viable seed? Are they the first two foxy ladies cultivated??? Being in tropical Cairns, they were probably seedlings 3 yrs ago. Already have an account?
What’s the difference between the variegated and the green ? There’s been a couple times where large all green forms have been available, but it hasn’t been too often. Can anyone tell me where I can buy a small foxy lady or gear me in the right deduction thank you

  • Here is the palm, looks very healthy aside from the obvious cold spots on the old fronds.
  • Not only that but they have a well designed navigation system that allows you to select different options either at the top left or the bottom of the page.
  • I don’t know the different rates of growth for them in Florida.
  • Therefore, you would expect the foxtails to have the wider leaves.
  • FoxyGold Casino’s website features a clean and very well-organized design with clearly labelled sections.
  • So my question would be if this palm is mostly green will it do well in full sun
  • I have 2 that look just like a foxtail.

/topic/33571-producing-wodveitchia-seed/ The seeds all had 2 white racing stripes. Therefore, you would expect the foxtails to have the wider leaves. Been in pots in the greenhouse for a couple years, very hard to tell. Mine are Veitchia Joannis that we’re planted about the same time. Wow that looks like a lot of growth for 6 months since planting.

I didn’t notice it until after the seedling got bigger… I have a Butia x Jubaea F2 that looks exactly like a Butia and growth speed is very similar to Butia. From what I understand about F2 hybrids, this result is not surprising. Kind of like a cross between foxtail fiber and the very smooth Vechis fiber.

It never ceases to amaze me how little water rootbound palms in pots get, even if you soak them everyday. Call me anytime to chat about transplanting palms. They say the foxy lady is a rocket but the growth rate appears to be the same as seedlings. Seed from a foxtail palm will only look like foxtail seeds even if something else is going in the seed.
You said, “I marked the spear the day it was delivered, and there has been zero growth.” The pool fence isn’t nearly high enough for any shade for the entire plant, and it looks like the leaves are getting full sun most of the day, probably with low humidity. Another possibility that could be of concern is, if it was pot grown and roots had exited the drain holes and anchored into the ground, they may have been severed when lifting the pot from the ground. Repeat the kelp extract/ water mix in 2 weeks.
I have 6 mature foxy ladies and all but 2 are variegated. That is how you can tell the difference between foxtail and Foxy Lady hybrid. Note the smooth texture of the seed fiber compared to a course fiber foxtail. I do not grow foxtails, so there could not be a mix up there. I have plenty of foxtails and Veitchia arecina in the yard so maybe it did a cross back with one of them to become fertile? Yeah I had one sprout a while back but had some irrigation issues to my potted plants in my absence and it ended up drying out and dying.
